Tree Planting Activity on September 7, 2024 (Advent Fair 2024 – Talaghay)

Dear Manila Waldorf School Community,

We hope that your long weekend was all you hoped for it to be.

We are kicking off Advent Fair 2024 preparations with a Tree Planting Activity in cooperation with the San Mateo LGU, the Municipal Agricultural Office (MAO), and the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer (MENRO).

Punla is derived from the Filipino word for the germination or cultivation of seeds. It also refers to an actual seedling or sprout. Punla represents new beginnings – the start of something great and fruitful, much like the seeds we plant in our hearts and in our community in preparation for this year’s Advent Fair, Talaghay.

Our community has faced significant challenges, most recently with the devastation brought by Typhoon Carina. In the wake of such natural disasters, the importance of reforestation and environmental stewardship becomes even more evident.

Punla allows us to come together to cultivate not just trees, but the spirit of Talaghay in our school and local community. In addition, Punla will serve the following objectives:

  1. Support our local community’s reforestation efforts;
  2. Help provide food for the Pintong Bukawe community in the coming years since we will be planting mostly fruit-bearing trees; and,
  3. Raise funds for our cherished Advent Fair tradition that in turn helps fund teacher development and training.

There are two ways to support this initiative – We’d love for you to join us on September 7th, planting day, but if for whatever reason you can not make it then, you can also choose to sponsor a tree, and the handy dandy little helpers of Class 3 will happily plant them for you.
